FDA suspends licence of Pune's famous 'Cafe Goodluck': Here's everything about the glass controversy

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Sunday suspended the licence of Pune's famous restaurant 'Cafe Goodluck' over hygiene and safety issues.

This comes after a video allegedly showing a glass pieces in a bun at the eatery spread across social media.

"An inspection was conducted, during which some unhygienic conditions were found. We have suspended the eatery's licence until further orders and necessary compliance," FDA Joint Commissioner Suresh Annapure told PTI on Sunday.


The FDA conducted an inspection at the food joint after taking cognisance of reports about the alleged glass pieces in a bun.

A couple claimed to have found the glass pieces in the bun muska they had ordered at Cafe Goodluck and recorded a video to post on social media.

The costumer later spoke to Pune Times Mirror and said, “It was my weekly off, and I had planned a small date with my wife at FC Road. We went to Cafe Goodluck and ordered tea along with Bun Maska. When my wife took a bite, she felt a transparent, hard substance in her mouth."

He also accused Cafe Goodluck of negligence in food preparations. “Initially, we thought it was ice, but on checking, we realised it was a piece of glass. It could have caused serious internal injuries had she swallowed it.”

The owner of Cafe Goodluck, Kasim Irani, confirmed about the incident and said that the loaf of bread is sourced from an external bakery.

The staff had apoligised and given a waiver on the bill. However, the costumer said that incident was handled casually, which prompted him to file a complaint.
