A man in Gujarat wanted to impress his wife by posing as a secret agent, but his grand plan backfired after real secret agents caught him in the act.

The incident, as per a report in the Times of India, happened in Gujarat's Gandhinagar.

A 31-year-old man from Gandhinagar, Gunjan Kantiya, wanted to prove to his wife that he was a secret agent.

So he devised a plan and, on Tuesday, took her wife to the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) office in Jagatpur, Gandhinagar.

He walked into the office while his wife waited in their car parked outside, according to the report of Times of India. However, the real NIA officers there immediately identified his ID as fake.

He was nabbed and later presented to the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) headquarters nearby.

Kantiya, who resides in Aalloa village in Gandhinagar's Mansa taluka and hails from Amreli, runs a visa consultancy firm in Mansa. To maintain his ruse, he had been using a forged ID card, which falsely displayed him as a sub-inspector (deputation) working for the NIA. Shockingly, he had been using this fraudulent ID for about four years.

Further investigation uncovered more counterfeit IDs that Kantiya had created, claiming various high-ranking positions in different government departments. These included an identity as a junior town planner (IAS grade-2) in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, with a forged joining date in February 2021. Another fake ID asserted that he was a deputy executive engineer in the Gujarat government's Road and Building Department.

To create these elaborate fake IDs, Kantiya skillfully downloaded the logos and signatures of influential officers from both the NIA and other government agencies. His motive for this deception was to exploit these fake identities to get his work done more smoothly and gain unauthorised access to circuit houses.
