Facebook not working today? Why are users reporting face login failures as Meta apps face outage

Thousands of Facebook users reported issues accessing the platform on Friday morning, with outage-tracking website Downdetector registering more than 100,000 complaints. Users reported problems ranging from login failures to difficulties loading content and accessing key features.

Why is Facebook down?

Facebook-parent Meta said on Friday that users were having trouble accessing the social media company's services.

"We're aware people are currently ‌having ⁠trouble ⁠accessing our services. We're working on it," the company's spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X.




The company's status page for Facebook acknowledged the disruption, stating, "We're working on getting this fixed as soon as we can."

Meta's status dashboard also flagged a problem with its advertising platform. Under Facebook Ads Manager Status, the company noted: "Ads Delivery We are aware of an issue that may be impacting ad delivery. Our engineering teams are aware and are actively looking to resolve the issue as quickly as possible."
The disruption was reported in multiple countries, suggesting the issue was not confined to a specific region. In India, users from several cities said they were unable to access Facebook and Instagram normally, with many reporting problems loading feeds and refreshing content.

Login and feature access issues reported

Apart from feed-related problems, some users said they experienced login difficulties and were unable to access certain features on the platforms. Reports indicated that the impact varied, with some users able to access the websites while mobile apps struggled to load new content or update timelines.

Users turn to X for updates

As the outage continued, many users flocked to other social media platforms, including X, to check whether others were facing similar issues. Posts suggested that Facebook, Instagram and, in some cases, Facebook Messenger were all affected.

Backend issue suspected

The varying nature of the disruption led some users to speculate that the problem could be linked to Meta's backend systems rather than individual internet connections or devices.

Troubleshooting efforts offer little relief

While users attempted common fixes such as restarting apps, switching internet networks and checking for software updates, reports suggested the issue was occurring on Meta's side, limiting the effectiveness of these measures.
