Former Techie-Turned-Burglar Arrested in Vizag: BMW Bought with Stolen Gold
In a shocking turn of events, Gajuwaka police under the Vizag Police Commissionerate arrested a former software engineer for a string of house burglaries across the city. The accused, identified as Achhi Mahesh Reddy (27), alias Sunny, had allegedly committed over 26 break-ins in Vizag alone, according to a Times of India report.

Police recovered around 700 grams of gold ornaments, 3.8 kg of silver, a BMW car purchased with the stolen wealth, a scooter, and house-breaking tools from Sunny, signalling the scale of his lavish lifestyle funded by crime.

From IT Professional to Serial Burglar

Sunny, a resident of Park Street in Madhavadhara, Vizag, and originally from Kakinada district, was once employed at a prominent IT firm in Hyderabad. Despite his education and professional background, authorities say he turned to a life of crime to maintain a luxurious lifestyle.

“Despite his previous employment and education, he chose the crime route to lead a lavish life,” said Vizag police chief Shankabrata Bagchi.

Loot Worth Over Rs 25 Lakh

A series of house break-ins across the city saw property worth over Rs 25 lakh stolen, including 1,085 grams of gold, 6,333 grams of silver, and Rs 40,500 in cash. Months of meticulous investigation led the police to concrete clues that finally resulted in Sunny’s arrest.

A Criminal Record from Teen Years

Sunny’s criminal activities date back to his teenage years. At 15, he was accused of property offences under the PM Palem police station limits in Vizag and was sent to a juvenile home.

After his release, he reportedly carried out over 32 burglaries across Kakinada town, Sarapavaram, Ramachandrapuram, Indrapalem, and Rajahmundry. He even served 14 months in Rajahmundry central jail.

60+ Burglaries Across Andhra Pradesh

Altogether, Sunny is believed to have been involved in more than 60 house burglary cases across Andhra Pradesh. Police added that he occasionally returned to Visakhapatnam for thefts while living a luxurious life in Hyderabad.

Vizag Police Crackdown Continues

The arrest of Sunny highlights the ongoing efforts of the Vizag police to crack down on organised house burglaries in the city. Authorities continue to investigate potential accomplices and recover stolen property from past offences.
