EPFO portal still down after July 2 deadline: Here's the latest update on when services will resume for members and employers
EPFO's online services remain inaccessible beyond the scheduled maintenance, frustrating members and employers. A major technology upgrade for better claim processing is underway, but the portal outage continues. Meanwhile, a new EPF Scheme, 2026,...

Why EPFO services are unavailable
EPFO had earlier announced that it was carrying out a major technology upgrade involving database consolidation and software improvements. According to the official notice on its website, the migration is being undertaken "to enhance service delivery, improve processing efficiency, and provide a better user experience."The planned maintenance started at 12 am on June 26 and was scheduled to continue until 11:59 pm on July 1. Services were expected to resume from 12 am on July 2.
However, by Thursday morning, the website was still displaying the "Scheduled System Migration & Temporary Service Unavailability" message, suggesting that the upgrade process had not yet concluded.
In an update, EPFO said that the services will be back online tonight.
What services are affected?
During the migration period, both employees and employers are unable to use several important EPFO online facilities. The unavailable services include:
Member Interface login
Employer Interface login
Submission of fresh EPF claims
Online claim processing
EPF e-passbook access
UAN linking for new employees
Other digital services available through the EPFO portal
Users seek answers as downtime continues
As the portal remained inaccessible beyond the announced timeline, several users turned to social media seeking clarity on when services would return. One user on X wrote: "The scheduled downtime has already passed, but the EPFO portal remains inaccessible. Thousands of users are affected. Please communicate the reason for the delay and when services will be restored."
EPFO had not announced a revised timeline for restoring services in the information available on its website.
Centre rolls out new EPF Scheme, 2026
While the portal outage continues separately, the Centre has notified the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) Scheme, 2026, replacing the 1952 framework with immediate effect. The new scheme keeps the mandatory 12% contribution by both employers and employees unchanged but introduces a more digital-first and compliance-focused structure to support the implementation of labour codes.
Among the major changes are simplified rules for partial withdrawals related to illness, education, marriage and housing. The scheme also makes it mandatory to provide Aadhaar, PAN and Aadhaar-linked bank account details for digital processing.
For employers, the updated framework introduces stronger compliance requirements, including electronic filings and ownership disclosures.
The government has also launched three initiatives under the new framework—Employees' Enrolment Campaign 2026, VISHWAS 2026, and AMNESTY 2026—to help address past compliance gaps and resolve legacy issues.
Although both developments have occurred around the same time, there is no indication that the notification of the new EPF Scheme, 2026, is linked to the ongoing system migration.
