Employee sacked for coming late to office for the first time in 7 years

We all get late to work once in a while, but just imagine someone getting fired for turning up late for the first time in their service.

According to a Reddit post, this was allegedly what happened to an employee who turned up late for work - by 20 minutes - for the first time in over seven years of service. The post was shared by one of his colleagues.

The post shared on the Antiwork forum on Reddit said, "He was fired for reaching just 20 minutes late." The name of the employee, the name of the company and the place where this allegedly occurred are not mentioned.


As per the post, other employees have decided to protest against the company's decision. As part of their protest, all employees have decided to come late till the sacked employee is rehired.

“Tomorrow, I and all my co-workers will be late and will continue to come in late until they rehire him,” the Reddit post states.

The post has gone viral and has collected over 79,000 upvotes since being shared on Reddit.

The post sparked a debate on social media, and some other users also narrated similar experiences at work.

A person shared that he got late once for work because of a snowstorm. He said it was the first time in six years that he got late, and that he did not get fired for it. However, the user added, his employer mentioned it in his annual review.
