Elon Musk revealed earlier this month that Twitter will make the "For You" algorithmic timeline less obligatory for users. The CEO has recently issued another update addressing the platform's future, stating that the 'For You or Following' choice will be available again shortly.
The debate began when MMA fighter Matt Brown tagged Musk on Twitter, arguing that he doesn't grasp the new Twitter timeline.

Matt Brown, tagging Elon Musk, tweeted why he is getting crypto and political junk on his Twitter timeline, when he only wants fights on his Twitter timeline. To which Elon Musk replied that the team is working on it. The conversation was taken ahead by another user, who stated that recommended tweets should be in chronological order and make it stay in ‘For you’ even after closing the app.

Elon Musk is getting a lot of these complaints to which he replied, that the next update will make ‘For You’ more persistent and the recommendations will be more in chronological order.

Twitter recently announced the launch of a feature for its web client that will remember which timeline users were using the last time they signed in and will set it as the default when they log in again. Musk also stated that the platform will make using the "For You" algorithmic timetable less obligatory.

Meanwhile, on Android and iPhones, the option to send a direct message to another user from a profile page has been eliminated. The "DM" button that used to show next to the follow and notify buttons has vanished with no replacement. While it is unclear if this was done by design or by accident, users may still send a direct message by searching for the relevant account on the messages page.
