Ekalabya Chakraborty, the Kolkata-headquartered zonal railway's spokesperson, said the entire Eastern Railway network of 2,848 km was now electrified after the completion of the commissioner of railway safety (CRS).
The electrification will help in reducing carbon emissions and will help in making India's railway network carbon neutral. Konkan railway achieved it in March 2022, after the foundation stone for the 741 km route's electrification was laid in 2015. The project's total cost is Rs. 1,287 cr. The CRS inspected the Konkan Railway route in six phases.
