Elderly woman in Kerala stops scooty rider from driving on footpath. Watch viral video

A video from Kozhikode, Kerala, showing an elderly woman stopping a scooty rider from misusing a footpath has gone viral on social media.

In the clip, the woman is seen standing firmly in the rider’s way, refusing to let the vehicle pass through the pedestrian lane. Despite the rider attempting to argue and sneak past her, she does not budge. The video, shot from a distance and without audio, captures the tense exchange. When the woman takes out her mobile phone and begins recording the incident, the rider eventually gives up and returns to the main road.

The act has drawn widespread praise online. One user commented, “People who mock Kerala’s literacy rate should understand why it matters. Education is not just about jobs or business. It instills civic sense, responsibility, and the courage to question what is wrong. The woman knew the footpath is meant for pedestrians, not vehicles. That awareness reflects real education.”




However, some expressed concern. “Commendable, but such situations can turn ugly if the other person becomes aggressive,” one user warned.

Another wrote, “Salute to the brave lady for teaching a lesson. Using footpaths for two- and four-wheelers has become common as offenders are rarely penalised. CCTV cameras at prominent places could help generate revenue and enforce discipline.”

Encroachment of footpaths has become a growing nuisance across India. From hawkers to vehicle riders, pedestrian spaces are increasingly misused. Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, the Supreme Court last year directed states to ensure proper maintenance and protection of footpaths.
