Varuthini Ekadashi significance

Varuthini Ekadashi is linked to divine protection and the removal of misfortunes, as explained by Lord Krishna to King Yudhishthira in the Bhavishya Purana. Mohini Ekadashi, on the other hand, celebrates Lord Vishnu’s Mohini avatar during the Samudra Manthan, when he distributed the nectar of immortality among the gods. Both Ekadashis are believed to bestow good fortune, spiritual merit, and a path toward salvation.

Mohini Ekadashi 2026: Date and Shubh Muhurat

Mohini Ekadashi is on April 27, starting at 6:06 PM on April 26 and ending at 6:15 PM on April 27, with Parana from 05:43 AM to 08:21 AM on April 28. These dates and times are calculated according to the Vedic calendar’s Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha phases.

Mohini Ekadashi significance

The word “Mohini” refers to the enchanting divine form assumed by Lord Vishnu during the Samudra Manthan, the churning of the cosmic ocean. According to Hindu mythology, this captivating avatar played a crucial role in distributing the nectar of immortality to the gods while outwitting the demons. This episode symbolizes the triumph of truth and righteousness — the victory of dharma over evil.

Mohini Ekadashi 2026 Puja Rituals

Devotees wake up early on Mohini Ekadashi, take a holy bath, and wear clean clothes before beginning the fast.

They take a sankalp to observe the vrat with devotion and set up an idol or image of Lord Vishnu for worship.

Offerings such as Tulsi leaves, flowers, fruits, and sweets are made while lighting a ghee lamp and incense sticks.

Devotees chant mantras like “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya,” read the Mohini Ekadashi Vrat Katha, and perform aarti in the morning and evening.

The fast is observed either strictly or with fruits and milk, while avoiding grains, onion, garlic, and non-vegetarian food. Many devotees also engage in charity, bhajans, and night vigil. The fast is broken the next morning after prayers by consuming satvik food.
