Eight-year-old girl dies after mobile phone explodes in her hand in Kerala

In a horrific incident, an eight-year-old girl died when a mobile phone exploded in her hand. The incident happened in Kerala's Thrissur. The girl, Adithyasree, was a Class 3 student.

The incident happened on Monday night. She was reportedly watching a video on the phone when the incident happened.

According to media reports, a team of local police officials have begun a probe, and a forensic team has also been pressed into service.


Deaths due to mobile phone blasts are not new.

Earlier this year, a 68-year-old man in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain died in a suspected phone blast.

In another such horrific incident last year, an eight-month-old baby in Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly district died after the battery of a mobile phone kept next to her on charging mode exploded.

Precautionary Steps
One of the main reasons for a smartphone exploding is the lithium-ion battery that heats up while charging. So it is advised not to use the phone while its charging. You can disconnect the phone and then use it if you must.

Phone makers also advise users to only use the official charger. Also, do not put the phone on charge for long; a lot of phone users tend to leave their phone on charge overnight.

Also, do not repair phones at unauthorised centres.

Lastly, if the phone gets really hot during charging or if it is swollen, do not use it and keep it in an isolated place away from inflammable materials.
