Ramadan is considered one of the holiest periods for Muslims around the world. During this time, the community observes fasting from dawn to dusk, offers prayers, performs the five daily namaz, and shares Sehri and Iftari meals with family and friends. The month is dedicated to devotion, discipline, and strengthening bonds with loved ones.

Eid-ul-Fitr Marks the End of Ramadan

Eid-ul-Fitr is the festival that signifies the end of the month-long fasting period. The word “Eid means the day, when Muslim community break their month long fast and this day marks the ending of Ramadan month.” It is a time of celebration, gratitude, and togetherness for Muslims worldwide.

Eid 2026 Date

The festival follows the Islamic lunar calendar, which means the exact date of Eid changes each year. The day cannot be confirmed until the crescent moon is sighted. In India, Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 is expected to fall on March 20 or March 21, depending on when the moon is seen. The moon sighting is likely to take place on March 19, 2026, and if confirmed that evening, the festival will be celebrated on March 20, 2026. The final declaration is made only after the official moon sighting.

Chand Raat: The Night of Celebration

Once the crescent moon is sighted, people immediately begin celebrating and sending greetings to friends and family. This joyful evening is known as Chand Raat, often referred to as a “pre Eid celebration and known as chand raat.” The night is filled with excitement as families prepare for the festival. Women apply mehendi on their hands and begin preparing a variety of festive dishes and desserts.

Meethi Eid and Festive Traditions

Eid-ul-Fitr is commonly called Meethi Eid, and the celebrations usually last for three days. During this period, people spend time with family, friends, and relatives, exchanging sweets, greetings, and warm wishes. The day of Eid begins early in the morning with a bath, wearing clean and festive clothes, and offering special Eid prayers.

Charity is an important part of the festival. Many people help those in need by offering food, money, clothes, and other essentials. Children eagerly look forward to receiving Eidi, or gifts from elders, which adds to the joy of the celebration. Through prayers, generosity, and togetherness, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with immense happiness and gratitude.
