Ed Sheeran wrote seven songs in four hours, wife reveals in documentary 'The Sum of It All'

In his new documentary, The Sum of It All, Ed Sheeran's spouse, Cherry Seaborn, disclosed how the singer-songwriter penned seven songs within four hours following her cancer diagnosis. The documentary also features poignant moments of Ed, 32, breaking down in tears as he reflects on his anxiety over the possibility of losing Cherry.

In February 2022, while pregnant with their second child, Cherry received a diagnosis of a tumor. However, medical professionals advised her to delay surgery until after giving birth.

Following Cherry's diagnosis, Ed Sheeran turned to writing music as a way to process his emotions. Cherry revealed that after receiving the news, Ed retreated to the basement and wrote seven songs in just four hours. For Ed, writing music is a way to express his feelings during intense times, much like how others may write in a diary.


Thankfully, Cherry was able to carry her pregnancy to term, and their second child, a daughter named Jupiter, was born in May 2022. The couple also has a daughter named Lyra Antarctica. Ed further explained that when someone you deeply care about is going through a difficult time, it can feel overwhelming and suffocating, like you're drowning and unable to escape the weight of the situation.

During the time of his wife's cancer diagnosis, Ed Sheeran was facing several difficulties, including the loss of his friend Jamal Edwards and a court case where he was accused of plagiarizing "Oh Why" with his song "Shape of You." Nevertheless, the judge ruled that Ed had not copied the song.
