ECI Falta Election Result
The high-profile Falta Assembly seat in West Bengal has finally delivered its verdict, with Debangshu Panda of the Bharatiya Janata Party registering a massive victory after a politically charged repoll battle.

According to the final Election Commission figures, Panda won the seat with 1,49,666 votes, defeating his closest rival Sambhu Nath Kurmi of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) by a huge margin of 1,09,021 votes.

Kurmi secured 40,645 votes, while Abdur Razzak Molla of the Indian National Congress finished far behind with 10,084 votes.

Heavy Security In Place During Counting

Vote counting for the politically sensitive constituency began on Sunday under tight security arrangements.

Large numbers of security personnel were deployed outside counting centres and strong rooms as officials from the Election Commission of India closely monitored the process.

The Falta seat had drawn significant national attention after the ECI ordered a complete repoll across the constituency following allegations of serious electoral irregularities during the original voting process.

Why Was Repolling Ordered In Falta?

The constituency initially went to polls on April 29 during the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.

However, complaints soon emerged over alleged EVM tampering, voter intimidation and disruptions at several polling booths in South 24 Parganas district.

Reports also claimed that buttons linked to BJP candidates on some Electronic Voting Machines were partially covered with white tape, while several voters allegedly faced obstruction while attempting to cast ballots.

Following an investigation led by special poll observer Subrata Gupta, the Election Commission scrapped the earlier polling and ordered fresh voting across all 285 booths in the constituency.

Falta Repoll Witnessed Massive Voter Turnout

The repoll conducted on May 21 recorded an impressive voter turnout of over 87 per cent among the constituency’s 2.36 lakh voters.

To ensure peaceful voting, nearly 35 companies of central forces were deployed throughout the area.

Several local residents later claimed the repoll was one of the few occasions where they were able to vote freely without fear or political pressure.

TMC Faced Unusual Situation Before Repoll

The constituency also witnessed political drama after Trinamool Congress candidate Jahangir Khan publicly announced just before the repoll that he would no longer contest the election.

The All India Trinamool Congress later described his decision as a personal choice.

BJP Gains Major Boost In Falta

The Falta Assembly seat falls under the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, currently represented by senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee.
