Earthquake memes jolt Twitter as Delhi rocked by quake for the third time in 20 days

On Tuesday night, Delhi witnessed its third earthquake in 20 days. According to the National Centre for Seismology, it was a mild earthquake of 2.5 magnitude with its epicentre few kilometres west of New Delhi. There were earthquakes in the capital city prior to this, on November 9, after an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck Nepal and left six people dead. Delhi and the surrounding areas experienced strong vibrations.

Then, on 12 November, an earthquake of a magnitude of 5.4 rocked Nepal, causing tremors in Delhi-NCR and a few other northern states. After the earthquake yesterday, Twitter has had enough and is turning to memes as a coping mechanism. Check out a few hilarious memes here:





Delhi residents are asking, "When will we come out of this pain?" after three earthquakes struck in fast succession over 20 days while the city was already struggling with smog and the winter season.

A report by The Straits Times said that there are roughly 15 significant earthquakes with magnitudes greater than 7.0 each year.

According to Dr Karen Lythgoe from the Earth Observatory of Singapore, just seven of these earthquakes were registered in the first 10 months of 2022, demonstrating that the frequency of these disasters is within the typical range.

Based on the statistical estimate of 15 big earthquakes per year, a few more significant earthquakes are anticipated to happen before the end of 2022.
