Donald Trump Nobel Peace Prize
US President Donald Trump has once again found himself at the centre of online jokes and memes after missing out on the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, despite his repeated claims of “stopping wars.” The prestigious award this year went to Venezuelan democracy activist Maria Corina Machado, leaving Trump supporters disappointed and social media buzzing.

Trump’s claims of bringing peace

Since returning to office in January, Trump has publicly campaigned for the Nobel Peace Prize, often asserting that he “ended eight wars.” His statements gained attention after he announced a peace deal between Israel and Hamas, claiming credit for ending the two-year-long Gaza conflict. He also took credit for “defusing tensions” between India and Pakistan after the brief military escalation in May — a claim that New Delhi has firmly denied.

Internet turns it into a meme fest

Soon after the Nobel Committee’s announcement, social media platforms were flooded with humorous takes on Trump’s loss. Many users posted sarcastic remarks suggesting Trump might “charge a dugna tariff”, a phrase borrowed from his own trade policies, for what he called his peace efforts. Others joked that the committee must have “missed the memo” about Trump’s global heroism.

One post read, “Trump stopped eight wars, five hurricanes, and two asteroids — still no Nobel?” Another added, “Nobel Committee should give him a participation medal for trying.”

Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Corina Machado

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 went to Maria Corina Machado, who has been a prominent voice for democracy and human rights in Venezuela. Her recognition drew global praise, with several world leaders calling her selection a victory for democratic movements.

This is not the first time Trump has publicly eyed the Nobel Peace Prize. During his previous term, he made similar claims of deserving it for brokering peace talks between North and South Korea and for his administration’s Abraham Accords in the Middle East.

While Trump continues to tout his achievements in diplomacy, the internet seems to have chosen humour as its way of responding, proving once again that when it comes to memes, Trump rarely goes unnoticed.
