Goa has become the first state in India to introduce a QR code system for tourists travelling with vehicles. This new initiative aims to make travel smoother by reducing repeated document checks.

How Does It Work?

When tourists enter Goa with their vehicles, traffic police will check their documents. Once verified, a QR code will be generated, which remains valid for 12 hours. If they are stopped again, they can simply show the QR code instead of going through another round of document verification.

So far, Goa Police have issued around 4,000 QR codes to tourists to help them avoid unnecessary checks and enjoy their holiday without hassle.

New Mobile App for Easy Verification

Speaking to TOI, crime branch SP Rahul Gupta said, “Goa Police have introduced the Quick Pass mobile application for traffic officials. This app is designed to make traffic compliance easier and reduce inconvenience for motorists.”

He added, “The app generates a QR code, which is sent as an SMS to law-abiding travellers. If they are stopped again for routine checks, they can show this QR code. This makes document verification quicker and allows smooth movement of vehicles while ensuring compliance with traffic rules.”

Smart Features for Better Traffic Management

The app also includes advanced features such as real-time traffic data analysis, geotagging, and hotspot mapping of traffic checks. These tools will help senior officials monitor and plan traffic management more effectively.

“This is the first such app developed by any state in India. It will significantly improve the experience for tourists visiting Goa,” Gupta added.

Created by Local Students

The app was developed by students of Padre Conceicao College of Engineering in Goa. It was a part of a hackathon organised by Goa Police in 2024, showcasing how technology can be used to solve real-world problems.

With this initiative, Goa aims to provide a seamless travel experience for visitors while maintaining proper traffic regulations.
