Don’t throw away old jeans: Try these 5 easy DIY reuse ideas to turn worn-out denim into bags, organisers, planters and home decor

Old jeans that are faded, torn or no longer fit do not always need to go straight into the bin. The strong denim fabric can be reused in several creative ways to make useful items for your home.

1. Make A Denim Organiser

Cut the pockets from an old pair of jeans and attach them to a piece of sturdy fabric or cardboard. Use the pockets to store chargers, stationery, remote controls, makeup or other small items.

You can hang the organiser near your desk, dressing area or beside your bed for easy access to everyday essentials.

2. Turn Jeans Into A Planter Cover

Old denim can be used to create a decorative cover for small plant pots. Cut a suitable section from the jeans and wrap it around the outside of a pot, securing it neatly.

Keep the denim away from direct water and make sure the actual plant pot has proper drainage.

3. Make A Simple Denim Tote Bag

One of the most useful ways to reuse old jeans is by turning them into a small tote bag. The thick denim makes the bag suitable for carrying books, groceries or everyday essentials.

The existing jeans pockets can also be retained, giving the finished bag extra storage space.

4. Create Denim Storage Baskets

Old jeans can be transformed into small storage baskets for items such as toys, accessories, craft supplies or household essentials.

Use the thicker sections of the denim and add cardboard or another sturdy material inside if you want the basket to hold its shape better.

5. Use Denim For Simple Home Decor

Denim scraps can also be used for small home decor projects. Cut the fabric into strips, patches or simple shapes and use them to decorate cushions, notice boards, storage boxes or other items.

Combining different shades of denim can give these simple DIY projects a casual and personalised look.

Tips Before Reusing Old Jeans

Wash and dry the jeans before starting any DIY project. Remove zippers, buttons and other parts carefully if they are not needed.
