Most of us tend to grab fruits without much thought, says Dr. Shubham Vatsya, Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Fortis Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. According to him, fruits shouldn’t be eaten at random but chosen intentionally based on what the body needs.

In a recent Instagram post, Dr. Vatsya broke down how specific fruits can support different health concerns. He explained that papaya and kiwi are particularly helpful for those struggling with constipation, as both fruits can enhance gut movement and ease bowel issues. For people dealing with acne-prone skin, he recommended berries and papaya, noting that their strong antioxidant properties can support skin health and reduce oxidative stress.

If fatigue hits during the day, the doctor suggested turning to a banana. Even a single banana, he said, can provide quick and clean energy, making it an ideal pick-me-up. For individuals managing blood pressure, Dr. Vatsya advised choosing watermelon during the summer months and oranges in winter, both of which he said help regulate blood pressure naturally.


“Small switches, big results—eat with intention, not impulse,” he emphasised.



In another video, Dr. Vatsya urged people to include more guava in their diets. He pointed out that if guava received the same attention as mangoes, India would hardly see Vitamin C deficiency. Guava, he said, contains four times more Vitamin C than oranges, supports heart function, improves insulin sensitivity, keeps the gut healthy, and is rich in antioxidants such as lycopene and flavonoids. According to him, this makes it a powerful shield against aging, disease and fatigue.

He also highlighted how a commonly overlooked fruit—amla—deserves far more appreciation. While avocados may dominate social media trends, Dr. Vatsya argued that amla is the true superfood for Indian households. Just one amla, he noted, provides the daily required Vitamin C intake, helps stabilise blood sugar, strengthens the heart, boosts immunity, and slows aging, all while being local, affordable and highly nutritious.
