LPG gas cylinder price hiked by Rs 29: Check domestic cylinder rates in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and other cities

Household cooking gas has become costlier once again and the price of a 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹29 across the country, marking the second hike in the last three months. The revised rates came into effect on June 7 and will impact millions of households that rely on LPG for daily cooking needs, reported news agency PTI.

The increase has been implemented by state-run oil marketing companies, with retail prices varying slightly from city to city because of local taxes and transportation costs.

Why Have LPG Prices Increased?

The latest revision comes amid rising costs faced by oil marketing companies. Industry sources indicated that the increase was necessary to partially offset losses on domestic LPG sales. Despite the hike, fuel retailers are still not passing on the full impact of international energy prices to consumers.

The ₹29 increase applies to standard 14.2-kg domestic cylinders used in households across India. The revised prices have been calculated by adding the latest ₹29 hike to the rates prevailing before June 7. Delhi's domestic LPG cylinder now costs ₹942, up from ₹913.

The increase follows a Rs 60 per cylinder hike on March 7 after the conflict in West Asia disrupted global energy supplies and drove up international fuel prices. Industry sources said that the increase had only partly offset losses incurred on domestic LPG sales, the PTI reported.

Impact on Household Budgets

For families that use one LPG cylinder every month, the increase means an additional annual expense of nearly ₹348. While the amount may appear modest, it adds to the growing burden of household expenses, especially for middle- and lower-income families already dealing with higher costs of essentials.

What Consumers Should Know

The revised rates are effective immediately and apply to all domestic LPG consumers. Since state taxes and transportation charges vary, prices in smaller cities and towns may differ from those in the four metros. Consumers are advised to check the latest rates through their LPG distributor or oil marketing company portal before booking a refill.

The rise in LPG prices comes at a time when several other fuels have also become more expensive. Petrol and diesel prices have been raised by a cumulative Rs 7.50 per litre since mid-May, while compressed natural gas (CNG) rates have gone up by around Rs 6 per kg.
