The fourth season, which premiered on IFC and AMC+ in late 2022, has received critical acclaim. The cast includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicholas Braun, Cate Blanchett, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Jones, August Diehl, Harriet Walter, and Jamie Demetriou. Fred Armisen and Helen Mirren, who introduces each documentary title in the PBS-style parody series, also star.
This season parodies documentaries such as Netflix's My Octopus Teacher, When We Were Kings, The September Issue, Burden of Dreams, Little Dieter Needs to Fly, The Beaches of Agnès, and Koko: A Talking Gorilla.
Since 2016, Documentary Now! has been available to long-term Netflix subscribers, with new seasons added after airing on IFC. The show was briefly removed from the platform from June 2022 to November 22nd, 2022, when it was reintroduced to Netflix US.
