Doctors find a developing foetus inside stomach of a 40-day old infant in Bihar

The case came to light when the 40 days old baby was bought for treatment in the Rahmania Medical Center. The parents bought the child to the hospital as he felt bloating, due to which the infant couldn't urinate properly. Thus, Dr Tabrez from the Rahmania Medical centre prescribed for a CT (computed tomography) scan to detect the cause of bloating and urine blockage. During the treatment, the doctors observed the developing foetus inside the infant's stomach. These results left everyone shocked, and soon, several tests were conducted to detect the baby's condition. The doctors regarded this condition as ''fetus-in-fetus, i.e. the developing foetus inside an infant's stomach. According to the reports of NDTV, the doctors claim that this condition occurs only in one out of five lakh patients. The child underwent surgery and is now fine and discharged from the hospital.

Fetus-in-fetu: A Rare Medical Condition
In the rare condition fetus-in-fetu, one of the twins starts developing inside the stomach of the other twin. It is so rare that it only occurs once in every five lakh children, and a doctor would rarely encounter one of such cases in his lifetime. The surgery, in this case, is performed by a specialist with advanced surgical methods. However, the child is likely to have a healthy life after the surgery, and the parents might not worry about it for their infants.


Reported Cases of Fetus-in-fetu in Other Countries
Another such condition was reported approximately five years ago in Hong Kong. In this case, the newly-born child had a fetus inside her during her birth. As per the reports of The Times of Israel, a similar case was observed in Israel where a baby girl had been born with an embryo. This embryo was supposed to be of her twin. However, as said earlier, the condition is sporadic, and only a few cases have been reported till today.
