Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness emerges as the biggest box-office grosser of 2022

Ever since the Covid-19 crisis hit the world, movie theatres suffered greatly. Lockdown was imposed in most countries and because of that, theatres remained shut for a long time. 2022, however, has brought some cheer for theatre owners and exhibitors across the globe with many films doing well at the box office. Recently, Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness raced past all films released globally and emerged as the biggest money-spinner this year.

On Saturday, the American superhero film hit $800 million and crossed the lifetime collections of The Batman. The Robert Pattinson starrer superhero flick had amassed $769 million globally and held the title for the highest grosser of 2022. Now, the box-office earnings of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are higher than the film and it will continue to collect more money in the last leg of its theatrical run.

As per a report published in Forbes, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has earned more than $350 million in the United States. In the overseas market, it has made around $465 million. Its global gross collections stand at $815 million at the moment. Reputed trade experts are of the opinion that the lifetime collection of the film will be around $950 million. Hitting the billion-dollar mark, though, looks a little difficult.


Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is an integral part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that has a huge fan following all across the world. The film, therefore, has emerged as a success story in all the countries it has been released in. Part of the film’s success can also be credited to the fact that it took the narrative of blockbuster films like Spider Man: No Way Home and WandaVision forward.
