CJP protest: 'The youth no longer fear'; echoed at Jantar Mantar; Sonam Wangchuk joins protesters
A video from social-media-driven Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)'s first major protest in Delhi has triggered a wider discussion on general knowledge after participants were asked about controversial slogans and the strategic “Chicken Neck” corridor linking India’s Northeast.

The incident has since gained traction on social media after Union Minister Kiren Rijiju shared the clip on his X account, calling for greater awareness about the country’s geography and national issues.

Reporter Questions Protesters on Umar Khalid and Slogans

In the video, a reporter is seen engaging with protest participants and asking questions related to political slogans and public figures. The reporter first asks one of the protestors, "Do you support Umar Khalid?" To this, the protestor responds, "Yes, I support Umar Khalid."

The interaction then shifts toward a more sensitive topic involving slogans often described as controversial or anti-national in public discourse.

The reporter asks, "Do you think it's correct to support slogans like 'Bharat tere tukde honge, Bharat ko hum chicken neck se alag kar denge? as these are anti-national slogans. Do you know what is chicken neck?"

‘I Don’t Know About Chicken Neck’: Protesters Respond

When asked about the term “Chicken Neck,” one protestor replied, "I don't know about chicken neck, honestly speaking." Surprisingly, another protestor standing nearby was also unable to answer the question when the same topic was raised.

The exchange quickly became a talking point online, with users debating awareness about national geography and politically sensitive terminology.

Umar Khalid has been in custody since September 2020 over conspiracy charges in the 2020 Delhi riots, with repeated rejection of bail pleas. The term 'chicken neck' is linked to Umar Khalid through his co-accused Sharjeel Imam.

Sharjeel's “chicken neck” comment made during an anti-CAA speech in January 2020 landed him in trouble. Imam made a speech during the 2020 anti-CAA protests calling for a blockade of this corridor to cut off the Northeast.

Rijiju Reacts on Social Media

Reacting to the viral clip, Kiren Rijiju emphasized the importance of understanding India’s geography and strategic regions, particularly the Northeast.

He posted: "Very regrettable, these youth are not aware of North-East India, its critical geographical location. We must know about our own nation."

Social Media Debate Follows

The video has since sparked mixed reactions online. While some users criticized the lack of awareness shown in the clip, others raised broader questions about political discourse and protest culture.

The incident continues to circulate widely, adding to ongoing debates about civic education, political awareness, and public understanding of sensitive national issues.

"many people still don't know that Northeast India is India. Even after we clearly mention our state, some still ask if we're from Pakistan, Nepal or China. They may not mean any harm but when people from Northeast hear these questions again & again, it honestly becomes hurtful..," wrote one user. "They know everything about Umar Khalid & support him but are unaware of the North East and chicken neck," wrote another.

What Is the ‘Chicken Neck’ Corridor?

The “Chicken Neck” refers to the narrow Siliguri Corridor in West Bengal, a strategically important strip of land that connects India’s Northeast states to the rest of the country.

Because of its narrow geography and strategic importance, it is often discussed in national security and geopolitical contexts.
