Diwali Delhi police traffic advisory: Check which roads will face restrictions and diversions? Alternate routes to avoid festive jams during Dhanteras, Bhai Dooj and Chhath
People travelling to Anand Vihar ISBT and nearby railway stations during the festive season will have to plan their journeys carefully, as Delhi Traffic Police has introduced special traffic arrangements from November 5 to 15.

The restrictions cover key roads around the interstate bus terminal, including Road No. 56 and Road No. 57. Parking and vehicle halting will also be prohibited along important stretches, particularly near the entry and exit gates of Anand Vihar ISBT. Commuters travelling towards NH-24, Sarai Kale Khan and Barapulla have been advised to take alternative routes through GT Road and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway.

Why has Delhi Police announced traffic restrictions around Anand Vihar?

The special arrangements have been introduced to manage the expected increase in passenger movement during the festive season.

Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhai Dooj and Chhath Puja are expected to bring a large number of passengers to Anand Vihar ISBT and adjoining transport hubs.

Anand Vihar is an important transport point connecting Delhi with several destinations in Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the region. The expected movement of passengers and vehicles could lead to congestion around the bus terminal and nearby railway stations.

To prevent traffic bottlenecks, Delhi Traffic Police has announced restrictions, diversions and designated parking arrangements for the 11-day period.

Which roads will be affected by the traffic arrangements?

According to the traffic advisory, Road No. 56, also known as Chaudhary Charan Singh Marg, and Road No. 57, also known as Swami Dayanand Marg, are among the stretches likely to be affected.

Traffic diversions will also be enforced at Ghazipur roundabout and Ramprastha in Vivek Vihar.

Commuters travelling through these areas should account for possible changes in traffic movement and avoid unnecessary entry into the Anand Vihar ISBT area.

Alternative routes for NH-24, Sarai Kale Khan and Ghaziabad commuters

Delhi Traffic Police has suggested alternative routes for commuters travelling towards several destinations.

Those heading towards NH-24, Sarai Kale Khan and Barapulla have been advised to use the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway via GT Road.

Similarly, commuters travelling towards Ghaziabad and Dilshad Garden have been advised to take the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway near Akshardham via GT Road.

These alternative routes are intended to help divert traffic away from congested stretches around Anand Vihar ISBT.

Parking banned on both sides of Road No. 56

One of the key restrictions concerns parking and vehicle halting around the bus terminal.

The traffic advisory prohibits parking, waiting and halting of all types of vehicles on either side of Road No. 56.

The restriction applies to buses, three-wheeler scooters (TSRs), autorickshaws, taxis and private vehicles.

Particular attention has been drawn to the areas near Anand Vihar ISBT's entry and exit gates and adjoining approach roads, where vehicles stopping to pick up or drop off passengers could obstruct traffic.

Private vehicle users have been advised to use designated parking facilities on Kaushambi Road.

These include the parking area near the Maruti showroom and the DDA land on Kaushambi Road near NH-24. Parking at these locations will be subject to availability and approved arrangements.

Delhi Police warns of towing and prosecution for unauthorised parking

The traffic advisory has also warned vehicle owners against leaving their vehicles unattended on carriageways or approach roads.

Unauthorised parking and any obstruction to traffic may invite prosecution and towing action as per rules.

Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys in advance, avoid unnecessary entry into the Anand Vihar ISBT area and prefer public transport wherever possible.

The special traffic arrangements will remain in place until November 15 to manage passenger movement during the festive period.

Dhaula Kuan, Vikas Marg and Ring Road among affected stretches

According to a report by TOI journalist Ishita Jairath, Dhaula Kuan witnessed heavy traffic around 3 pm on Thursday, an unusually busy period for the stretch.

Commuters travelling between Delhi and Noida reported journey times approaching two hours. Traffic also moved slowly on Vikas Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.

The festive rush was particularly visible around popular shopping destinations, including Chandni Chowk, South Extension and Lajpat Nagar. Roads around these markets remained clogged as shoppers headed out to purchase items for Diwali.

Barapullah Flyover emerged as another major bottleneck, with commuters reporting that their journeys across the stretch were taking up to 55 minutes.
