Director Prasanth Varma is breaking away from the conventional superhero movie formula with his latest creation, 'HanuMan,' set to be released on January 12. The film offers a refreshing take on the superhero genre, steering clear of religious undertones and embracing a culturally rich narrative. The response from viewers has been positive, with the Rs 20-crore budget film already collecting Rs 50 crore, positioning itself as a potential blockbuster for 2024.

Varma, known for his innovative filmmaking, shared the inspiration behind 'HanuMan': "I didn’t want it to be a Marvel or DC-like superhero film but something indigenous and culturally rooted. The first thought that came to mind was Hanuman ji, and I wrote the story.” Starring Teja Sajja, Amritha Aiyer, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Raj Deepak Shetty, and Vinay Rai, the film is set in modern times with ancient elements.

During a visit to a Hanuman ji temple in Delhi, Varma highlighted the cultural depth that sets 'HanuMan' apart, saying, "The buzz around the film is 99 per cent Hanuman ji and one per cent my content."

Varma envisions 'HanuMan' as a movie for all ages and backgrounds, assuring, "There is no mention of religion in this movie. 'HanuMan' is going to appeal to all ages, and there is not a single element that’ll make you uncomfortable in this film. You can go with your entire family, have fun, and get blessed."

With 'HanuMan,' Prasanth Varma introduces the Prasanth Varma Cinematic Universe (PVCU), marking a unique blend of modern storytelling with ancient roots. The film, featuring Teja Sajja as the titular character, revolves around Hanumanthu, a small-time thief, and his journey to save his village and the world after discovering a totem that enhances his abilities.

Despite initial skepticism, critics have praised 'HanuMan' for its execution of the classic superhero origin story. The film, with a runtime of 2 hours and 38 minutes, explores the underdog story mirroring the strength of Lord Hanuman. While elements like the love story and the introduction of another villain feel somewhat disconnected, the film promises an entertaining Sankranthi fare for families.

As 'HanuMan' hits the screens, the question lingers: Will it emerge as an underdog success story in the Sankranthi race? With sequels like 'Jai Hanuman' and 'Adhira' in the pipeline, Prasanth Varma's vision for the PVCU universe is set for further exploration.
