The government stated that state-owned fuel retailers are currently incurring losses of about Rs 20 per litre on petrol and nearly Rs 100 per litre on diesel. This comes as pump prices have remained unchanged for close to four years despite a rise in global crude oil prices. The ministry further said there is no immediate plan to revise retail fuel rates.
Strait of Hormuz disruption pushes crude oil higher
Global oil markets firmed up after traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was disrupted following the seizure of two ships by Iran, including one bound for Kandla port in Gujarat. The development has added uncertainty to global energy flows, with nearly 20 per cent of the world’s energy exports passing through the route.
