Did a loco pilot stop a train to buy samosas? Western Railway explains what really happened
Western Railway has dismissed a viral video alleging a train stopped for samosas. The railway clarified the incident involved a goods train, not a passenger service. This goods train was already halted for scheduled engineering work in the Rau yar...

The clip, widely shared on social media, alleged that the train was halted solely so the crew could purchase snacks. News agency PTI also shared the video, citing a third-party source, and reported that the Railways had ordered an inquiry into the matter.
"A video showing the loco pilot of the Indore-Mhow DEMU train stopping reportedly to buy samosas from a shop beside the tracks has surfaced. Railways has ordered a probe after the video, which allegedly shows the train being halted for samosas, went viral," read the PTI post.
However, Western Railway clarified that the incident did not involve a passenger DEMU train. Instead, it concerned a goods train operated by Concor Green Field Private Terminus, hauled by locomotives numbered 27237 and 27600.
According to the railway zone, the goods train had already been stopped at the Rau Home Signal because of scheduled engineering work in the Rau yard. During this authorised operational halt, the Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) stepped out to buy food.
"The claim made in this post is false and misleading," Western Railway said in a post on X. It added that the train "was already halted at RAU Home Signal due to scheduled engineering work" and "was not stopped to purchase food."
The railway further stated that the ALP's personal act during the authorised stoppage had been "deliberately misrepresented" to create the false impression that the train was halted for refreshments.
Western Railway also noted that the video was incorrectly linked to an Indore-Mhow DEMU passenger service, while the actual incident involved a goods train.
Calling the viral clip an example of selective editing and misinformation, the railway urged the public to verify facts through official sources before sharing such content, warning that misleading posts can undermine public trust.
