Significance
Devshayani Ekadashi, also known as Hari Shayani Ekadashi, holds immense significance among Hindus. The term "Devshayani" refers to God resting or sleeping, specifically Lord Vishnu, who is believed to rest on Sheshnaag in Ksheer sagar (the milky ocean) after this Ekadashi. Some followers believe that Lord Vishnu enters a state of complete mental relaxation called Yog Nidra.
Following this divine slumber, Lord Vishnu awakens after four months on the day of Prabodhini Ekadashi or Dev Uthani Ekadashi. This four-month period is traditionally known as Chaturmas, although in 2023, it will extend to five months.
This holy occasion serves as a time for reflection, devotion, and seeking divine grace. Hindus across the world participate in various rituals and ceremonies to honor Lord Vishnu and express their faith and devotion. Devshayani Ekadashi reinforces the significance of spiritual rejuvenation and the power of prayer in Hindu culture.
