Depressed man attempts to open emergency door mid-air on Guwahati-Agartala Indigo flight

In a startling incident aboard a Guwahati-Agartala Indigo flight, a 41-year-old man, identified as Biswajit Debath, made an attempt to open an emergency door while the aircraft was in mid-air. Authorities reveal that Biswajit, a resident of Jirania in West Tripura, was struggling with depression and reportedly expressed a desire to jump from the plane.

The incident escalated into a confrontation with the flight crew, resulting in Biswajit Debath being detained on charges of "endangering the lives of hundreds of passengers." Airport Police Station in Agartala's Officer in Charge, Abhijit Mandal, stated, "Biswajit has confessed that he suffers from depression and was trying to open the emergency door mid-air."

This unsettling episode transpired around 1 pm on Thursday, when the plane was merely 15 miles away from Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala. Fortunately, the quick response of both the flight crew and fellow passengers prevented the emergency door from being opened, ensuring the safety of all on board.


In response to this incident, authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation. Biswajit Debath is scheduled to appear before a court on Friday to face legal proceedings.
