Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle new version reportedly coming, but here's why that's a bad news

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle hit theatres in September and went on to enjoy a phenomenal box-office run, cementing its status as one of the most successful anime releases in recent times. Naturally, fans who watched it on the big screen—or missed it altogether—have been eagerly waiting for its OTT debut. But if you’re expecting it to drop online this month, there’s some disappointing news.

As of now, the film is unlikely to arrive on OTT platforms anytime soon. While the movie is already listed on Crunchyroll, the page carries a confusing mix of signals. There is a visible “Start Watching” button, but it is accompanied by a clear disclaimer stating: “Only in theatres – tickets on sale now.” This suggests that streaming access is not yet active.

Typically, anime films follow a theatrical-to-digital window of around six months. Going by that pattern, Infinity Castle was widely expected to land on OTT sometime between late January and mid-February. However, a new report indicates that the makers are reconsidering those plans.


According to the report, Sony Pictures Entertainment and animation studio ufotable are keen to keep the film exclusive to theatres for longer, as it continues to perform strongly at the box office. Instead of an immediate digital or Blu-ray release, the team is expanding the theatrical rollout.

The movie is now set to receive special ScreenX and Ultra 4DX versions, which will release across theatres in Japan on February 20. As quoted in a ComicBook report, this marks a first-of-its-kind release for the Demon Slayer franchise, offering fans a more immersive viewing experience.

However, this extended theatrical focus also means there will be no Blu-ray or OTT release in the near future. The same report adds that fans may have to wait until March, when an update could potentially be announced during the AnimeJapan 2026 event.

Directed by Haruo Sotozaki, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle adapts the much-loved Infinity Castle arc from Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba by Koyoharu Gotouge. The story follows Tanjiro, Nezuko, and the elite Hashira warriors as they battle the fearsome Upper Rank demons within the Infinity Castle, culminating in a high-stakes confrontation with the series’ primary antagonist, Muzan Kibutsuji.

All the previous seasons are now available on multiple platforms including Netflix, Jiohotstar, Prime Video and Crunchyroll.

For now, fans will have to remain patient—and theatrical—if they want to revisit this epic chapter of the Demon Slayer saga.
