Delhi witnessed a change in weather conditions after fresh spells of rain in parts of the city. A notable improvement in air quality was observed as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast rainfall on January 27. The department issued a yellow alert, warning of rain during the morning, afternoon, and evening hours.

How is the week ahead

Weather conditions are expected to improve steadily through the rest of the week. Wednesday, January 28, may still see unsettled conditions with scattered showers in nearby areas. The day’s temperature is likely to hover around a high of 19.6°C and a low of 12.9°C, with humidity levels close to 80%.

From Thursday, January 29, conditions are forecast to turn clearer and drier, with sunny skies and temperatures around 21.4°C during the day and 11.8°C at night. Friday, January 30, is expected to remain partly cloudy, with temperatures near 22.8°C and 13.2°C.

The warming trend is set to continue into the weekend and early next week. Saturday, January 31, is likely to be sunny with temperatures touching about 24.1°C. Sunday, February 1, is forecast to be the warmest and brightest day, with temperatures reaching approximately 25.8°C, coinciding with a Full Moon. A slight dip in temperatures is expected on Monday, February 2, with partly cloudy skies and highs around 23.6°C.

AQI on 27th January

For the first time in three days, the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) slipped into the ‘poor’ category, registering a reading of 294. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) showed a sharp decline in air quality on Tuesday at 8:00 am, after two consecutive days of moderate AQI levels.

The window from January 29 to February 1 is likely to be the best period for outdoor activities, though morning haze may need to be watched if pollution levels remain elevated. Following a brief spell of rain today and tomorrow, New Delhi is expected to settle into a typical late-winter pattern marked by clearer skies, milder afternoons, and cool nights.
