Delhi weather forecast: Rain likely on Monday, skies to turn drier from September 8

Rain lashed parts of Delhi on Sunday as a low-pressure area over southwest Uttar Pradesh and the neighbourhood continued to influence weather conditions over the region.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), more widespread rain is expected in Delhi on Monday, September 7. The weather is then forecast to turn drier, with partly cloudy skies from September 8 onward.

What to expect

Monday, September 7: This is likely to be the wettest day of the week, with very light to light rain at many places and moderate rain at isolated places, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning during the morning to forenoon. Another spell of light rain is possible from the afternoon to evening.


September 8–10: Rain is expected to take a break. Delhi should see partly cloudy skies, with daytime temperatures remaining around 32–35°C.

September 11–12: Conditions are expected to remain generally cloudy, while daytime temperatures stay in the 31–33°C range. No rain is forecast.

The IMD bulletin said there would be no significant change in maximum temperatures over the next seven days.

Delhi had already received substantial rain in the preceding 24 hours. Safdarjung recorded 29.8 mm, while Palam recorded 35.6 mm. The highest rainfall figure listed in the bulletin was 50 mm at IGNOU University.

Temperatures and warnings

On September 7, the maximum temperature is forecast to remain between 33°C and 35°C, with a minimum of 23–25°C. On September 8, the maximum is also expected to be 33–35°C, with a minimum of 24–26°C. September 9 and 10 are forecast to see maximum temperatures of 32–34°C, while minimum temperatures are expected to remain between 24°C and 27°C.

The IMD's district-wise warning chart shows no warning for Delhi from September 7 onward.

Meanwhile, the rainfall earlier on Saturday also led to waterlogging in several parts of the national capital. Localities including Geeta Colony and Akbar Road witnessed light accumulation of rainwater during the morning hours.

The fresh spell of showers also affected the wider National Capital Region, with key stretches in Gurugram witnessing waterlogging. The accumulation of rainwater disrupted vehicular movement and caused inconvenience to daily commuters.

Meanwhile, according to ANI, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday conducted a surprise inspection of Sadhbhavana Park and adjoining roads amid continuous rainfall and took stock of the waterlogging situation in the area. During the inspection, Gupta interacted with officials and on-ground staff to assess drainage arrangements and understand the challenges arising from the ongoing rainfall.

The Chief Minister directed officials to immediately deploy pumps and other necessary resources in waterlogged areas and ensure prompt drainage of accumulated water.
