Delhi Traffic Police Road Closed Advisory Today September 1: Check key roads closures timings and diversions in the national capital for BRICS summit rehearsal

Delhi traffic road closed alert today: Several major roads in the national capital will witness traffic diversions and regulated movement on Tuesday, September 1, as the Delhi Traffic Police conducts a full-scale motorcade rehearsal ahead of the BRICS Summit 2026.

The restrictions will be in place between 11 am and 3 pm, particularly across New Delhi and other key VVIP corridors. The traffic police has identified 22 diversion points and more than 35 roads that could see movement restrictions during the rehearsal.

The advisory does not mean that all these roads will remain completely shut throughout the four-hour period. Traffic will be stopped, diverted or regulated at specific points as the motorcade passes through different stretches. The actual BRICS Summit will be held at Bharat Mandapam on September 12 and 13, according to government information.

Delhi traffic today September 1: Which roads will be affected?

Commuters travelling through central and south Delhi should expect delays and diversions during the rehearsal window. Among the major roads and stretches listed in the advisory are:

Traffic police personnel will regulate movement at several junctions rather than impose a blanket closure of every road on the list.

Delhi Traffic Police Key Diversions Today

At Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, vehicles heading towards Mathura Road and Tilak Marg will face restrictions. Commercial vehicles travelling beyond Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk will also not be allowed towards W-Point during the controlled movement.

Traffic coming towards C-Hexagon from Kasturba Gandhi Marg and Janpath will be diverted.

At Patel Chowk, vehicles heading towards Windsor Place and the RBI side of Sansad Marg will face restrictions.

Another important point is the RML Hospital roundabout, where traffic will not be allowed towards Mother Teresa Crescent and Talkatora Road during the regulated movement.

On the southern side, Simon Bolivar Marg will face restrictions at Vande Matram Marg. Traffic coming from the Dhaula Kuan Flyover towards Sardar Patel Marg will also be stopped or diverted.

At Moti Bagh Flyover, vehicles will be diverted away from Shanti Path.

Similarly, traffic heading towards Yashwant Place from Africa Avenue at Brig Hoshiyar Singh Marg will face restrictions.

Delhi traffic advisory: What commuters should do

The Delhi Traffic Police has advised people to plan their journeys before leaving home and keep additional travel time in hand. It has specifically recommended using public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, during the rehearsal period.

Metro services are expected to continue normally, although road-based feeder services, buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws may have to follow temporary diversions when the motorcade is moving.

People travelling to railway stations, airports and other major transit points should leave earlier than usual because delays may occur on connecting roads even if their destination itself is not within the restricted zone.

Emergency and essential-service vehicles will be given priority passage, according to the traffic advisory.

Parking restrictions and commercial vehicles

Commuters should also be careful about parking near the controlled routes. Roadside parking is prohibited within 200 metres of the regulated roads, except at authorised parking facilities, according to the advisory.

Non-destined commercial vehicles will also face restrictions on entering Delhi during the specified period.

The traffic police has asked motorists to follow instructions from personnel deployed at diversion points instead of attempting to enter restricted stretches.

Why is Delhi traffic being regulated today?

The restrictions are part of security preparations for the upcoming BRICS Summit, which India will host in New Delhi under its 2026 chairship. The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled for September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam and will bring together leaders from BRICS member and partner countries along with outreach invitees.

India's BRICS chairship this year is centred on the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” The summit is also taking place in a significant year for the grouping as BRICS marks 20 years since its establishment.
