Speaking to PTI, Kapil Mishra said the double-decker buses would roll out as part of efforts to improve tourism infrastructure in the national capital. Officials said two buses are likely to become operational around February 20, marking one year of the Delhi government.Evening tours are also on the cards. An official said the route has been largely finalised, indicating that the service will cater to tourists who prefer to explore the city after regular museum hours.

The tourism department plans to operate the service from the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, covering major landmarks across central Delhi."The tourism department now plans to operate the bus from the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya to popular destinations such as Bharat Mandapam, the National War Memorial, the new Parliament complex, Dilli Haat and other sites," a senior official said.

The department has sought time from the chief minister’s office for the formal inauguration, the official added.
The double-decker bus is electric and manufactured by Ashok Leyland. It has been provided under a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative. Initially stationed at the Okhla depot under the transport department, the bus has now been handed over to the tourism department.
Officials said the bus can accommodate more than 63 passengers besides the driver. It is designed to operate smoothly in Lutyens’ Delhi, without problems related to overhead wires or low tree canopies.

The bus is likely to be decorated with images of major city landmarks such as India Gate, the Signature Bridge and Bharat Mandapam.
The fare has been fixed at Rs 500 for adults and Rs 300 for children aged between six and twelve years. A guide will be on board to explain the historical and cultural significance of each stop to passengers.
Focus on heritage, not shopping hubs

Double-decker buses were once a common sight in Delhi. The Delhi Transport Corporation operated them as ‘Suvidha’ buses before phasing them out in 1989 due to an ageing fleet.
