Delhi student ends life by jumping into Yamuna river from Signature Bridge

The police said that on Saturday morning he left the house and while returning to his home he jumped in the Yamuna. Though it is not clear as to why he took such a step as yet. However, further investigation into the matter is underway.

A 19-year-old student has allegedly committed suicide by jumping from Delhi’s Signature Bridge into the Yamuna river.

The student’s body was recovered by divers and police, and the deceased has been identified as Rajat, a resident of Karawal Nagar.

Apart from being a student, the deceased also used to work in Karol Bagh. Rajat lived in Karawal Nagar with his father, mother and his two sisters.


The police said that Rajat stopped at the bridge on his way home on Saturday, and jumped into the river. It is not clear yet as to why he took such abn extreme step, investigation into the matter is underway.

Police have not found any suicide note or any other piece of evidence in the case. They do not suspect any foul play.

Due to the rise in the water level of the Yamuna following rains over the past few days, divers had to be deployed . They jumped into the water to save him, but by then Rajat had drowned. After some time his body was taken out of the water. The police also found from the spot a bag that belonged to Rajat.
