Delhi Rape Case: 16-year-old girl went to meet a friend, was allegedly raped and stabbed 8 times; body dumped, parts eaten by stray dogs, one hand found separated

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered by four youths in Outer Delhi’s Swaroop Nagar, after which her body was dumped in an open field. Police have apprehended three minors and a 19-year-old man in connection with the case.

According to police, three of the suspects allegedly sexually assaulted the girl. The fourth suspect has claimed that he was not involved in the sexual assault but admitted to participating in the murder. Investigators are verifying his statement and determining the individual role of each accused.

The incident took place on September 12. The following morning, police received information about a body lying near an open field along Kushak Road. A police team reached the location and recovered the body, whose identity was not immediately established.


The girl had suffered at least eight stab wounds.

Police added that stray dogs had eaten parts of the girl’s body, while one of her hands was found detached from the rest of the body, PTI reported.

FIR registered under BNS and POCSO

Based on the initial investigation, police registered an FIR under Sections 103(1) (murder), 238(A) (causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information to screen an offender), 65(1) (rape) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

DCP (Outer North) Shobhit D Saksena constituted a dedicated investigation team under the supervision of Additional DCP Lokeshwaran R.

More than 50 CCTV cameras examined

With no apparent eyewitnesses and the identities of the suspects initially unknown, investigators turned to CCTV footage from the area.

Police examined footage from more than 50 cameras installed around the crime scene and along adjoining routes. During the investigation, officers spotted a tempo moving through the area around the suspected time of the crime. However, its registration number could not be read clearly because of poor visibility and darkness.

Investigators then tracked the tempo through multiple CCTV locations and compared its movements with information gathered during field enquiries. The exercise helped police reconstruct the vehicle's route and identify it.

Tempo traced after night-long search

A search operation was carried out through the intervening night of September 15 and 16. The tempo was eventually located parked in Khadda Colony in Swaroop Nagar.

Police identified and questioned its driver, following which the four suspects were apprehended.

What police said happened on September 12

According to police, the girl had gone to meet a friend on September 12. The friend allegedly called some of his associates, after which the group travelled in a goods-carrying tempo operated by the brother of one of the minors.

During questioning, the suspects reportedly told police that they had been drinking before the incident.

Police said the suspects allegedly sexually assaulted the girl inside the tempo and then stabbed her several times. Investigators said the suspects allegedly feared that she would report the assault and therefore killed her.

Police have stressed that the account provided by the suspects is still being verified. Forensic findings and other evidence are being examined to establish what happened.

Knives, clothes and tempo recovered

Police said two knives allegedly used in the crime, along with clothes allegedly worn by the suspects, have been recovered. The tempo has also been seized.

Further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events and determine the precise role of each suspect.
