Delhi: Rainwater pours into IGI Airport Terminal 1; Videos show staff using buckets, mops to tackle flooding

Delhi-NCR experienced heavy rainfall on Tuesday, bringing much-needed relief from the intense summer heat. The rain came with cloudy skies and strong winds blowing at 50–70 kmph.

Several videos went viral on social media, showing rainwater entering Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. In the clips, airport staff were seen sweeping water and using buckets to collect it inside the terminal building.



Due to the bad weather, many flights were diverted, according to official sources.

The temperature in Delhi also dropped. The maximum temperature was recorded at 36.2°C, which is 3.8 degrees below the usual for this time of year. However, the minimum temperature was 28°C, slightly higher than normal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Wednesday. The alert will remain in place until Thursday, with forecasts of thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rain, and strong winds expected during the night.
