Several parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed rain and overcast skies on Friday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms on Friday for Delhi. Some areas of Delhi experienced very light rain on Thursday, and this led to a drop in the maximum temperatures by seven degrees Celsius at the base station, expected to drop further on Friday. The city experienced a sudden change in weather on Wednesday evening, marked by strong winds, thunderstorms, and intense rain showers.

Delhi rain today

According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to see generally cloudy sky with a spell of very light rain accompanied with thunderstorms and lightning and strong surface winds (30-40 kmph) in the morning. Towards the evening, you can expect one or two spell of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm lightning and strong surface winds at the speed of 30-40 kmph. The minimum and maximum temperature are likely to hover around 16 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively. For March 21 and 22, the weather agency has predicted partly cloudy skies in the national capital. Residents can expect generally cloudy sky with light rain or drizzle on March 23.


The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely to continue over parts of Delhi-NCR. "Western disturbance is currently positioned over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir, which is why the western Himalayan regions are witnessing heavy rainfall. At the same time, an induced cyclonic circulation over Haryana is leading to rainfall across Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab," Mahesh Palawat of Skymet told PTI.

He said that although earlier forecasts indicated stronger rainfall activity, the system is now moving towards the eastern parts of the country, and conditions are likely to remain similar to what is being experienced at present.

"The pre-monsoon activity has also arrived earlier than usual. Typically, it begins towards the end of March, but this time it has been advanced because the first 10 days of March recorded unusually high temperatures, and the western disturbance has been more intense. As a result, the pre-monsoon phase has been preponed," Palawat said.

Noida rain update

The weather forecast for Noida indicates generally cloudy conditions on March 20, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers expected during this period. From March 21 onward, the sky is likely to become partly cloudy, gradually improving to mainly clear conditions by March 23 and continuing through the following days. Overall, short spells of rain and thundershowers are expected initially, followed by a transition to clearer and more stable weather conditions later in the forecast period.

Gurugram weather update

The weather forecast for Gurugram indicates generally cloudy conditions with the possibility of a thunderstorm and one or two spells of rain, especially during the early part of the period. Temperatures are expected to remain warm, with daytime highs gradually increasing over the next few days.

From the following days onward, the weather is likely to become partly cloudy to mostly sunny, with a gradual rise in temperatures. While brief showers or thunderstorms may occur initially, the later part of the forecast period is expected to be mostly dry with clearer skies and hotter conditions.

The weather forecast for Ghaziabad indicates generally cloudy conditions with a possibility of one or two spells of light to moderate rain during the forecast period. These spells of rain may be accompanied by thunderstorm activity, lightning, and strong surface winds gusting around 30–40 kmph.
