Heavy rain lashes parts of Delhi, over 100 flights delayed; metal structure collapses at airport
Rain and thunderstorms in Delhi and the National Capital Region forced airlines to divert flights on Friday morning. According to PTI, over 500 flights were delayed since this morning.

As per Moneycontrol, which quoted DIAL officials, around 40 flights have been diverted away from Delhi Airport due to thunderstorms while over 100 flights have been delayed as of 0530 IST.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this was the second-highest 24-hour spell of rain witnessed by Delhi in May since 1901.


In an advisory, Air India said, "Thunderstorms and gusty winds have affected flight operations in parts of Northern India. Some of our flights to and from Delhi are being delayed, which is likely to impact our overall flight schedule. We are doing our best to minimise disruptions. We advise our guests to check the latest status of their flights here https://airindia.com/in/en/manage/flight-status.html before heading to the airport."

Indigo also issued an advisory saying, "A thunderstorm is expected in Delhi. If you’re flying with us, we’re here to support you every step of the way. Please check your flight status before leaving: http://bit.ly/3DNYJqj — your safety and comfort matter most."

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) also issued a notice on X (formerly Twitter), warning about severe weather impacts on scheduled flights. Their advisory read: "Due to inclement weather conditions and thunderstorms in Delhi, some flights have been impacted at Delhi Airport. Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information."

Spicejet's advisory read, "As per the Indian Meteorological Department, easterly winds are expected between 26th April and 4th May 2025, potentially affecting flight operations to/from Delhi. All departures, arrivals, and connecting flights may be impacted. Passengers are requested to keep a check on their flight status via https://spicejet.com/#status."
