Delhi protesters want to plunge India into chaos: Zoho's Sridhar Vembu calls for defeating the 'malicious agenda'

Amid the ongoing protests in Delhi, Zoho's Sridhar Vembu on Wednesday said the demonstrators were attempting to "plunge India into chaos" and derail the country's progress. In a post on X, he urged people to reject what he described as a "malicious agenda" and said elections, not protests, are the proper way to express the public's collective will.

"One thing is clear: the Delhi protesters want to plunge India into chaos, and stop the nation's progress. We must defeat this malicious agenda, which is aided and abetted by powers that want to destroy India. We have a vibrant democracy and elections are the proper way to express our collective judgment," said Vembu in a post on X.

How did people react?

Many social media users disagreed with the Vembu's remarks, arguing that peaceful protest is a democratic right and that citizens must be able to hold governments accountable between elections.

"Elections are but so is protest and elections are a viable option only if they’re not rigged. Protesting peacefully for one’s rights is not an issue. It’s a right given in democracy itself," said one user.

"After elections are over, there is no accountability??? Everybody should sit & wait for next elections only? even when students suicide, people keep dying" said anoter user.

"Elections every 5 years cannot be the only criteria of a vibrant democracy. To paint every dissent against the ruling establishment as a foreign conspiracy and trying to discredit it using every tool possible is undemocratic," said another user.

SC declines urgent listing of plea against police action

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined a request for urgent listing of a plea challenging the police action against students during the Cockroach Janta Party-led protest march in Delhi.

The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana.

"I have the videos as well regarding police brutality... If it can be listed tomorrow (Thursday)... students are there," the lawyer said.

He said that students had allegedly been subjected to police brutality during the protest and said the petition contained three prayers.

The CJI declined the request and made it clear that the bench was not inclined to examine video footage at the mentioning stage.

"We are not interested in videos, we don't have time to watch... We don't want to watch videos," the CJI said.
