Delhi police nabs 'Super thief' Devinder Singh alias 'Bunty Chor', who inspired film 'Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye'

After years of slip ups, Delhi Police has finally arrested Davinder Singh alias "Bunty Chor" from Kanpur, UP on Friday. Dibakar Benerjee's famous 2008 bollywood movie Oye Lucky Lucky Oye was inspired on the life of the thief Bunty Chor. Known as 'super thief, Bunty has reported to have committed over 500 burglaries across the country till 2012.

"Delhi Police have arrested Davinder Singh alias "Bunty Chor" from Kanpur, UP. He was on the run after committing theft in two houses in Greater Kailash 2 area. Further investigation underway," DCP South told ANI.

The police are expected to brief the press on his arrest later in the day.



Singh has earlier escaped from police custody many times in Delhi, Chennai and Chandigarh after being captured.

In the latest heist, he recently committed robberies in an upscale locality in the national capital. In his trademark style, goods worth lakhs were stolen from the two houses in Greater Kailash area in South Delhi.

Singh is a class nine dropout and he began stealing in 1993. He was first arrested in New Delhi but escaped from police custody. Bunty never bought a property and instead used to live in five-star hotels.
He, however, have a weakness for fancy cars and luxury watches.

He became popular after a bollywood movie, 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!', based on Bunty's life was made in 2008.

A couple of years later, he appeared in the popular reality show "Bigg Boss Season 4". His cameo as a contestant in Bigg Boss Season 4 in 2010 added to his nifty profile.
