Delhi recorded its coldest January morning in three years on Tuesday as the minimum temperature dropped to 3 degrees Celsius, the IMD said. According to the IMD, cold wave conditions are declared when minimum temperatures fall 4.5 to 6.4 degrees below normal. The maximum temperature for the day is expected to settle around 20 degrees Celsius. Cold wave conditions are likely to persist over Delhi on Wednesday as well, the IMD said.
According to IMD, Delhi is likely to witness clear skies today with cold wave conditions at a few places. The capital may experience moderate fog at many places with dense fog at isolated places during morning hours, the weather bulletin said.
Cold wave warning in Noida
On the other hand, the IMD has issued a cold wave warning for Noida on Tuesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius and 4 degrees Celsius, respectively. For January 14, Noida is likely to experience mist or fog during the early morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius and 5 degrees Celsius, respectively. Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad is experiencing a severe cold wave and dense fog.As far as Gurugram is concerned, the city is likely to witness partly cloudy skies today with maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 15 degrees Celsius and 4 degrees Celsius, respectively. For Wednesday, Gurugram may experience fog/mist during the early morning hours and clear skies during the later part of the day.

"Moderate temperature. Chilly winds may aggravate cold at time. Cold is tolerable but mild health concern for vulnerable people. Do not ignore shivering. It is the first sign that the body is losing heat. Get Indoors," the IMD advisory for January 13 reads.

"Cold westerly winds are consistently prevailing in the city. However, under the influence of a feeble western disturbance, the wind direction is expected to change to easterly by Thursday, which may cause a rise in temperature," an official told TOI. IMD said the minimum temperature may increase to around 3-5 degrees C by Thursday and further to 8-10 degrees C by Saturday.
Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely to persist over Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for the next two to three days, before easing thereafter. Dense fog is also expected to continue during morning hours across northwest India and Bihar over the next five days. Additionally, cold day to severe cold day conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and west Rajasthan during the next two days.
Meanwhile, Delhi's air quality deteriorated to the 'very poor' category with the Air Quality Index (AQI) settling at 337, according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data. The CPCB's SAMEER app showed that 29 monitoring stations recorded air quality in the 'very poor' category, one in 'severe' and nine in 'poor'. Anand Vihar recorded the worst air quality with an AQI of 411, falling in the 'severe' category. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 to 100 'satisfactory', 101 to 200 'moderate', 201 to 300 'poor', 301 to 400 'very poor', and 401 to 500 'severe'.
