Delhi NCR Weather: Delhi, Noida get relief as monsoon gains pace, more heavy showers likely this week
Delhi NCR Weather Updates: Parts of Delhi and NCR got a break from the lingering heat on Wednesday evening when rain swept across several areas. The India Meteorological Department has sounded an orange alert, warning of moderate to heavy showers ...
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast moderate rain and got it right. The city’s maximum temperature dropped to 35.6°C, a shade under the season’s usual. Minimum temperature touched 26.4°C, around 1.5 degrees lower than the average.
Humidity stayed stubborn through the day, hitting 81 percent at 8:30 in the morning and slipping to 58 percent by early evening.
Delhi NCR Weather Today: Orange alert, wet week
The IMD issued an orange alert on Wednesday, flagging the chance of moderate to heavy rain in parts of the capital. This comes after a yellow alert on Tuesday that didn’t see any rain.An IMD official confirmed that “light to moderate rainfall is likely across Delhi NCR, with a chance of localised heavy showers”. Forecasts say showers could grow heavier towards the evening and night, with thunderstorms and gusty winds between 30 and 40 km per hour in some places.
Monsoon trough stays near
Skymet and IMD both report that the monsoon trough is sitting close to Delhi. This keeps pumping in moisture and sets up unstable conditions that favour more showers.Though the monsoon has been patchy so far, current weather models show a wetter phase is coming. The IMD said, “Rain activity is expected to continue for several days. Plan travel and outdoor plans with caution.”
Heavier spells in some pockets
By Wednesday evening, heavy rain had already reached parts of East Delhi and Ghaziabad. Residents in Noida, Gurgaon and other NCR spots should brace for similar spells in the next few hours. Visuals from BD Marg showed roads under pools of water, a common sight after heavy rain here.People can expect this pattern to hold for a while. The IMD has predicted light rain with thunder and lightning every day from 10 to 14 July. Temperatures are likely to hover around 34°C by day and dip to about 25°C at night.
Residents are being urged to carry umbrellas, watch for slippery roads and steer clear of waterlogged underpasses during heavy spells. A sudden burst of rain can disrupt commutes in minutes.
For now, Delhiites can breathe a bit easier. The heat has eased. The air is cleaner. And the monsoon looks like it means business this week.
