The maximum and minimum temperatures in Gurugram are likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively. Gurugram may also see light rain on January 31 (Saturday) and on February 1, the IMD said.
Similar weather conditions are likely to persist in Ghaziabad with one or two spells of rain with thunderstorms today. The maximum and minimum temperatures in Ghaziabad are likely to hover around 18 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Red, orange alerts issued for Delhi
On Tuesday, rain lashed several parts of the national capital along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, with the IMD warning of the possibility of hail over the next three hours. A red alert was issued at 11.10 am for North West Delhi, West Delhi, South West Delhi, Outer North Delhi and parts of Central Delhi, the IMD said. Orange alerts were issued for North East Delhi, East Delhi and Shahdara, while parts of North Delhi and South Delhi were also placed under alert, it said, reports PTI."Bad weather over Delhi NCR likely during the next two to three hours," the weather office said. The IMD said light to moderate rainfall was likely at most places, with isolated heavy spells accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds of 40 to 50 kmph and hail. According to the IMD, a red alert indicates that authorities and residents need to take action as severe weather is expected, while an orange alert advises people to stay prepared and cautious due to the likelihood of adverse conditions.
Delhi sees coldest Republic Day in 5 years
According to a report in TOI, Delhi saw its coldest Republic Day since 2021, when the capital had witnessed 2.1°C. The capital experienced a sharp cold spell on Monday as the minimum temperature dipped to 3.6°C in parts of the city, with isolated cold-wave conditions recorded. Safdarjung, the city's base station, logged 4.2°C - four degrees below normalAir quality worsened again on Monday, slipping from 'moderate' to 'poor' compared to the previous day. With rain forecasted, conditions are expected to improve again on Tuesday. According to the air quality warning system, Delhi's air is likely to remain in the 'moderate' category from January 27 to 28, before deteriorating again to 'poor' on January 29.

According to IMD, the national capital is expected to witness rain and low temperatures on Tuesday. On Monday, Safdarjung recorded the highest maximum temperature at 23.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees above normal and nearly five degrees higher than the previous day. Palam recorded a cooler maximum of 19.3 degrees Celsius, whereas Lodi Road, the Ridge, and Ayanagar saw maximums between 21.5 and 21.6 degrees Celsius, close to or slightly below normal.
Western disturbance to bring rain in Delhi
Delhi is expected to receive rain on Tuesday, prompting the weather office to issue a yellow alert due to an intense western disturbance moving across northern India. Similar light rain and thunderstorm activity is likely to return from the afternoon into the night, as stated by the IMD. According to IMD data, the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 9 degrees Celsius, while the maximum may settle near 19 degrees. With cloud cover and rain forecasted, the day is likely to feel colder, as maximum temperatures are expected to dip further.
This will be the season's second intense western disturbance, bringing light to moderate rainfall to the region, the IMD said. Delhi last experienced a sudden wet spell on January 23, when thunderstorms and sharp showers resulted in the highest January rainfall in two years, temporarily reducing temperatures and improving pollution levels.
