Mainly clear skies have been predicted for Gurugram with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to settle around 14 degrees Celsius and 9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Delhi-NCR regions continues to reel under severe cold wave conditions on Thursday as dense fog and chilly northwesterly winds led to a sharp drop in temperatures.
The weather office has predicted a steep rise in Delhi's maximum temperature on Thursday, with no larger change in the coming days in the national capital region. The sky is likely to remain mostly clear during the next 24 hours and partly cloudy thereafter.
"The minimum temperatures will be above normal (0.1°C to 2.1°C) and the maximum temperatures will be below normal (-1.5°C to -3.0°C) over Delhi. The predominant surface wind is likely to be from the west direction with wind speed reaching up to 10 kmph during the morning hours," the IMD's weather bulletin said.

Delhi weather forecast for the next five days
The Met Department has predicted moderate to dense fog in Delhi and upper-level fog to prevail across the Indo-Gangetic Plain in the region on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The cold is expected to intensify over northern India until January 15. A yellow alert has been issued today, predicting moderate fog at many places with dense fog at isolated places during the morning hours. Thereafter, a partly cloudy sky with shallow to moderate fog has been forecast until January 13, 2026.For the next two days in Delhi, the national capital is likely to witness partly cloudy sky with shallow to Moderate fog during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi are likely to be in the range of 16°C to 18°C and 06°C to 08°C respectively.
"Safdarjung reported lowest visibility 800m and Palam reported lowest visibility 600m in shallow fog during past 24 hours over Delhi. The sky is likely to be mainly clear during next 48 hours and partly cloudy thereafter. Mist/Haze during night on 07th January 2026. Moderate fog at many places with dense fog at isolated places during morning hours on 08 January 2026 and Shallow to moderate fog during morning hours thereafter," the weather office said.

Dense fog conditions likely in northwest, Central India
The IMD in its latest weather bulletin has predicted dense fog conditions during morning hours over northwest, central and northeast India during next five to seven days. For the next two to three days, cold day conditions are likely to prevail over northwest, east (except Odisha) India. "Cold wave conditions very likely in isolated pockets of Himachal Pradesh, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand during next 2 days; Rajasthan Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh during next 3-5 days," the IMD said.Very dense morning fog is likely in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh between January 8 and 10, followed by dense fog conditions from January 11 to 14, the weather department said. Cold day conditions are also expected to persist across Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Delhi AQI update
The air quality in Delhi showed a slight improvement to settle in the poor category on Thursday morning, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board. The Air Quality Index (AQI) this morning was recorded at 276 compared to 336 on Wednesday morning. Delhi's 24-hour average air quality on Wednesday was 289. The minimum temperature in the city was recorded at 5.8 degrees Celsius, 1.1 notches below the season's average, the India Meteorological Department said. The maximum temperature is expected to settle around 16 degrees Celsius.According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB classification, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor' and 401 and 500 'severe'.
