According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to see a mix of temperature changes in the coming days and week.
The residents of Delhi can expect a cooler Thursday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for cold in the national capital. The IMD said Delhi is likely to witness partly cloudy skies with moderate fog at many places and dense fog at isolated places during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 17-19 degrees Celsius and 6-8 degrees Celsius, respectively. Delhi-NCR saw a slight improvement in air quality on Wednesday morning, following moderate rainfall across the city the previous day. Moreover, temperatures are expected to remain below normal for the next three days.

"Maximum temperatures are likely to be markedly below normal (-5.1°C to less) during the next 24 hours and appreciably below normal (-3.1°C to -5.0°C) thereafter," the IMD bulletin stated.

Similar weather patterns have been forecast for neighbouring regions as well. Noida is likely to experience mist or fog in the early hours, whereas Gurugram is expected to have clearer skies during the day. According to the IMD forecast, Ghaziabad is likely to witness cold and foggy mornings over the next few days, with dense fog expected around January 30. Light rain or cloudy conditions are likely on February 1 and 2.

Delhi to get rainfall soon

According to the IMD, Delhi is likely to see a mix of temperature changes in the coming days and weeks. The national capital may see light rain accompanied by gusty winds, with the temperature dropping to 7 degrees Celsius over the weekend.

The IMD in its latest weather bulletin has predicted generally cloudy skies for New Delhi with one or two spells of rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph on February 1. Post February 1, the temperature in Delhi is expected to get better, with mercury rising to a minimum of 13 degrees Celsius and a maximum at 19 degrees Celsius.

Gurugram is also likely to experience partly cloudy weather with intermittent rain or thunderstorms on February 1 and 2. Meanwhile, Noida is likely to see cloudy conditions with light rainfall on February 2.

Improvement in Delhi's AQI

Due to the rain in the national capital, Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) saw a slight improvement on Thursday, with the AQI being recorded at 270, putting it in the "poor" category. According to data released by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 273 around 7 a.m., placing it in the ‘poor’ category. Area-wise data revealed mixed air quality conditions across the city:

-Anand Vihar reported an AQI of 280, categorised as ‘poor’, while Patpadganj fared worse at 304, falling under the ‘very poor’ category.

-Ashok Vihar recorded an AQI of 323, while Bawana stood at 332, both in the ‘very poor’ category.

-Chandni Chowk registered an AQI of 340, indicating severe pollution stress in central Delhi.

-Dwarka Sector 8 (317) and Mundka (323) also reported ‘very poor’ air quality, highlighting widespread impact across different zones of the city.

A fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from January 31 to February 2, with a possibility of heavy rainfall or snowfall on February 1. Light to moderate rainfall is also expected over the plains of northwest India and adjoining central India during the same period. Additionally, dense fog conditions are likely during morning hours in isolated pockets of northwest India, adjoining central India, and parts of East India till February 2.
