Special traffic arrangements at Connaught Place for New Year’s Eve

Connaught Place is expected to witness massive crowds on the night of December 31 as people gather to ring in the New Year. To handle the rush, special traffic restrictions will be enforced from 7 pm on December 31, 2025, and will remain in place until the celebrations conclude.

During this period, no vehicle will be allowed to move towards Connaught Place beyond several designated points, including Mandi House, Bengali Market, Patel Chowk, Gole Market, GPO, Windsor Place, and key crossings on Minto Road, Ranjit Singh Flyover, Jai Singh Road and Kasturba Gandhi Road.

Vehicular movement will also be prohibited in the inner, middle and outer circles of Connaught Place, except for vehicles carrying valid passes.

Parking restrictions and designated parking spots near Connaught Place

Parking around Connaught Place will be strictly regulated on New Year’s Eve. Limited parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and unauthorised vehicles will be towed away.

Designated parking locations include areas near Gole Dak Khana, Patel Chowk, Mandi House, Minto Road, Panchkuian Road, Bengali Market, Windsor Place, Gole Market and Jantar Mantar Road. Motorists have been advised to follow signboards and directions issued by traffic personnel.

Routes to New Delhi Railway Station: What commuters should know

Special arrangements have also been made to ensure smooth access to New Delhi Railway Station, particularly from the south. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes via Mandir Marg, Rani Jhansi Road, Jhande Walan and Desh Bandhu Gupta Road.

Entry into the railway station from Connaught Place via Chelmsford Road will be restricted. Travellers should instead use the Ajmeri Gate side through Paharganj or JLN Marg. Old Delhi Railway Station will not be affected by these restrictions.

Suggested alternative routes for smoother travel

To reduce congestion, commuters are advised to use Ring Road and other major corridors for north–south and east–west movement across Delhi. Routes via Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Mathura Road, Subramaniam Bharti Marg and Mother Teresa Crescent Road have been suggested for smoother travel during peak hours.

Traffic restrictions around India Gate on New Year’s Eve

Heavy crowds are also expected at India Gate on New Year’s Eve. The Delhi Traffic Police has prepared elaborate arrangements for pedestrian and vehicular movement in the area.

During peak crowd hours, vehicles may not be allowed to pass through India Gate, C-Hexagon and nearby roads. Traffic may be diverted from several junctions including Janpath, Rajpath, Mandi House, Windsor Place, Mathura Road, Purana Qila Road and Zakir Hussain Marg.

Visitors have been advised to use public transport, as parking near India Gate will be extremely limited. Traffic congestion is also expected near Delhi Zoo and along Mathura Road.

Advisory for commuters and travellers

Commuters have been urged to avoid restricted roads where possible, use public transport and plan their journeys well in advance, especially if travelling to airports, ISBTs or railway stations. Authorities have appealed to the public to remain patient, follow traffic rules and cooperate with on-ground personnel.

The Delhi Traffic Police has also advised people to stay updated through official channels for real-time traffic updates as the city welcomes the New Year.
