According to the IMD forecast, Delhi is likely to remain under a generally cloudy sky on Thursday, with one or two spells of light to moderate rain from morning to afternoon. The fresh showers have brought some respite from the humidity, although intermittent rain could continue to affect commuters across parts of the capital. The IMD's Delhi-NCR forecast indicates that rainfall activity may continue at different intensities during the day.
Delhi-NCR rain alert and thunderstorm forecast
Rainfall activity is expected to increase again towards the evening, with scattered thunderstorms likely in parts of the region. Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 30s Celsius, keeping conditions relatively cooler than during dry spells.Residents of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad should remain prepared for sudden showers, particularly during periods of increased thunderstorm activity.
The IMD has been forecasting widespread monsoon activity across parts of northwest India, including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad weather update
The wider Delhi-NCR region is also expected to see intermittent rainfall. Noida and Ghaziabad have been witnessing spells of rain, while Gurugram could also see further showers.The weather system has already brought rain to several parts of the National Capital Region, with cloudy conditions continuing to dominate the region.
Commuters should therefore allow extra travel time and remain cautious on roads where rain could lead to waterlogging or reduced visibility.
Heavy rain alert across Uttar Pradesh
The weather situation is more intense in parts of Uttar Pradesh. The IMD has warned of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in some districts, with red alerts reported for areas including Banda, Prayagraj and Mirzapur.Several other districts have also been placed under lower-level alerts as the monsoon remains active across the state. Heavy rainfall has already caused waterlogging and disruption in parts of Uttar Pradesh.
Himachal Pradesh faces rain-related disruption
Himachal Pradesh continues to experience difficult weather conditions following persistent rainfall. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre, 166 roads, including National Highway-003, were blocked, while 130 power transformers and 222 water supply schemes were affected.Mandi was among the worst-affected districts for road connectivity, with 84 roads reported blocked.
The IMD has forecast further rainfall over the Western Himalayan region, increasing concerns about landslides, road closures and other weather-related disruptions.
Kerala coast under high wave warning
The weather department has also issued warnings for coastal areas of Kerala, Lakshadweep, south Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.Swell waves of around 1.1 to 2.2 metres are possible along vulnerable coastal stretches. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea, while restrictions have been advised for small fishing vessels, boat movements and beach activities.
Odisha monitors flood situation
Odisha is also on alert as further rainfall could worsen conditions in already flood-affected areas.According to the information provided by authorities, 429 villages across 52 blocks had been affected by floodwater as of August 15, while 79 rescue teams had been deployed. The Central Water Commission has also warned of possible flash-flood risks in parts of the state.
The IMD has forecast continued rainfall activity over several parts of eastern India, keeping flood-prone areas under close watch.
