Delhi-NCR weather July 13: IMD issues forecast for light rain, cloudy skies and strong winds

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of the country on Monday, with heavy rain likely at isolated places in parts of north, east, central and northeast India. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are also expected in multiple regions, while Rajasthan is likely to experience a weak monsoon phase with largely dry weather over the coming days.

For Delhi, the IMD has forecast a partly cloudy sky, with maximum temperatures between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius. Strong surface winds of 20 to 30 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 40 kmph, are expected during the day.

Delhi is likely to continue witnessing isolated rain activity over the coming days. While no heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Monday, light showers may continue in parts of the national capital under partly cloudy skies. Strong surface winds of 20 to 30 kmph, occasionally gusting up to 40 kmph during the day, are also expected.


Across the NCR, including Gurugram, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad and Greater Noida, isolated light rain or thundershowers are likely over the next few days. No widespread heavy rainfall is expected, with weather conditions remaining warm and humid and rainfall activity confined to isolated areas.

States under heavy rain and thunderstorm alerts

Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, east Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Uttarakhand, West Bengal and Sikkim.

Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are expected over east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and west Madhya Pradesh may also experience thunderstorms with gusty winds.

North India to receive scattered rainfall

Rainfall activity is expected to remain active over the Himalayan states, with Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand likely to receive heavy rain over the next few days. East Uttar Pradesh is also under a heavy rainfall alert on Monday.

Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and west Uttar Pradesh are expected to receive scattered rainfall during the week.

The IMD said Rajasthan is likely to remain under a weak monsoon spell over the coming week, with most parts of the state expected to stay largely dry. Isolated light rain may occur in a few areas, but rainfall is likely to remain below normal over the next several days. Strong dust-laden winds are also likely over parts of western Rajasthan.

Heavy rain to continue in east and northeast India

Bihar is likely to receive heavy rainfall, while Jharkhand, Odisha and parts of West Bengal are expected to witness widespread rain, including heavy showers in some areas.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to continue receiving heavy rainfall over the next few days, with isolated spells of very heavy rain forecast later this week.

Across the northeast, widespread rainfall is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Heavy rainfall is likely across much of the region, with rain activity expected to continue over the next several days.

Rain to persist over central, western and southern India

Heavy rainfall is likely over Chhattisgarh, while parts of east Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds.

Konkan and Goa are expected to continue receiving widespread rainfall. Scattered showers are likely over central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch.

In south India, rainfall is likely over coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Lakshadweep.

IMD advises caution in vulnerable areas

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is likely to continue over parts of northwest, east and northeast India during the next three to four days. Rain activity is also expected to persist along the western coast and across parts of central and southern India.

The weather department has advised people in areas under heavy rain warnings to remain cautious, as localised flooding, waterlogging and traffic disruptions may occur in vulnerable locations.
